G Plan Fresco Teak Sideboard Cabinet Vintage Retro Mid Century

A lovely mid century sideboard by G Plan in the Fresco range Compromises of 2 double door cupboards. One cupboard has a adjustable or removable shelf mid way. Sat solid wood legs. In very good vintage condition throughout except for small age related marks wear and patina and has a slight darker line on the top centre where a unit sat (see last pic). Size in cm L163 H70 D46. Please read : a lot of people do not know the difference between solid wood, real wood veneer, formica, artificial wood veneers. Many people list things as solid wood but the vast majority of items from this era are real wood veneer even the most expensive of brands are and many budget brands have a mix. Mid Century Teak sideboard by John Herbert for A Younger Fonseca Retro Vintage

A Younger early 1960s Fonseca teak sideboard. Designed by John Herbert who was one of the most accomplished British furniture designers of the 1950s and 60s. Unlike their Danish counterparts very little is known about most British mid-century designers. John Herbert worked for Youngers from around 1955 , and designed the bulk of their pieces until c 1967/8 when he was joined by Alan Pledge. The Fonseca along with the Da Sylva were Youngers most successful sideboards of the early to mid 1960s , and both have a distinctive style. A Younger were a premium brand at this time and the quality of teak and workmanship was superior to the larger mid-market makers such as G Plan and McIntosh , so you don’t find as many of their pieces for sale as those makers. A rare model and a fantastic design in excellent condition overall with only minor signs of use as expected with age. 209cm x 75cm high x 50cm deep.
