G Plan EGomme drop-leaf dining table with ebonised frame (Tola and Black, Librenza) 1950s/60s. This striking, newly refurbished G-plan E Gomme dining table would be a fantastic addition to any dining room or kitchen. Part of the stylish Tola range, it features a distinctive angular ebonised frame, with two drop-leaf extensions. The tola wood top is beautifully figured with a lovely striped rift cut grain. At its smallest, it will comfortably seat two, and fully extended it offers plenty of room for six, making it a great space saver. The table is in great condition, having been recently refurbished by us. The legs were quite scuffed when we received it, so the frame has been gently sanded and re-painted. A small section of veneer has come away from one of the drop-leaf sections close to the hinge. The underside of the table bears the gold embossed E Gomme stamp, which dates it to between 1952 and 1966. Ready to create the perfect retro dining experience? British furniture brand G Plan began as a pioneering range of furniture produced by E Gomme Ltd of High Wycombe. E Gomme regularly introduced new ranges to keep up with changes in fashion. The glamorous Tola and Black range was introduced in 1958, featuring rich glossy African mahogany (Tola wood) veneers, with dramatically shaped ebonised legs, beautifully complimented by brass feet and fittings. The range is sometimes referred to as’Librenza’ this was actually the name of a type of room divider / shelving unit from the Tola range (as coined by GPlans marketing wizard Doris Gundry), being a combination of the words library andcredenza. At Oriel Interiors, we feel that is important to emphasise that this is a piece of original vintage furniture, which has been used and loved by previous fabulous! Genuine tan leather, rosewood stained timber feet. H:75cm Seat H:41cm W:192cm D:84cm. Normal patina to leather with some minor wear to seats. The left seat cushion has a small slightly weak area as shown. This area has been under-patched with leather and resin which will effectively stop any movement of this area hence it is now 100% sound. Jentique is a brand of furniture made by Jentique Furniture Ltd. Started in the 1930s by the well-known toymaker Geoffrey Bowman Jenkins and his wife Edith, the company was based in Dereham, Norfolk. Jenkins lost his business to partner Bernard Smart (better known as the maker of Metamec clocks) in 1936. Along with similar cabinetmakers e. Meredew, the design of Jentique furniture followed the tastes of the times and the company did particularly well during the 1950s and 1960s, tapping into the hugely popular mid-century modern style inspired by Danish design. Today, teak Jentique furniture from this period has become an affordable collectors’ item prized for being attractive, well-made pieces. From the 1964 Jentique leaflet: Jentique Furniture has been noted for many years for its sound construction and excellent design. This leaflet illustrates the designs at present available. Examine the pieces in the shop and we are sure you will be impressed by the finish and first class materials used. In 1964 Jentique offered sideboards, dining tables, dining chairs, bureaus, and bookcases in Teak, Tola, American Walnut, and combinations.
